Last weekend I attended WordCamp Sacramento for the second year in a row. Last year it was a Gold Rush theme and this year the theme was Peace, Love and Freedom. Not much to write about this year. It was at the Sacramento Convention center, last year was at Sacramento State. There were a lot of people there that were new to WordPress and this was their first or second time coming to a WordCamp
It was nearly twice the size supposedly but it felt like about the same amount of people because the space was larger. You did get the feel of how many people were there though at lunch time because the food truck lines were really long. I really enjoyed
I attended the very first WordCamp in 2006 in San Francisco organized by founder Matt Mullenweg and the Sacramento WordCamp is starting to have that same vibe and energy. Here are some pictures from the event.
First things first had to get the Wifi password.
My favorite session I attended was entitled “The Future: Why Open Matters” by Aaron Campbell. He is the WordPress Security Lead and he talked about how business systems like Facebook, Shopify, and Twitter are all “Closed Systems”, meaning that Data goes in one direction into the system. He preached about Net Neutrality and the openness of the network and in an ideal world we would treat all data the same using open source platforms and spread the wealth. Here are a couple of pictures of his session.
